For the week of Semana Santa we welcomed children from the local area to our fabulous camp to spend time with the animals, enjoy the fresh air and fun activities with new friends.

We started things off with yoga in the early morning sunshine to get warmed up ready for action, and practise our favourite animal poses.

During the week we rehomed two tiny baby goats and they needed regular bottle feeds - everyone enjoyed giving them love and cuddles and helping give them their milk so they could grow big and strong!

Everyone helped groom the ponies and pick their feet out, and in the arena we created an obstacle course using poles, cones and barrels and took it in turns to ride or lead the ponies. We ventured out along the road to a beautiful meadow full of spring flowers where we took a little break to pick some flowers.

Using the flowers, we guided the children to make beautiful mandalas, both individually and then a bigger collaborative one using Grapat mandala pieces along with leaves, stones and other interesting things we found on our walk!

Everyone got stuck in with the practical animal care too - from cleaning out the rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs to poo picking the pony paddock, learning lots of new things in the process and developing their connections with the animals and the sense of responsibility that comes with caring for them, while working as a team to get everything done.

We also spent some time in the vegetable garden, planting out seedlings, pulling weeds, watering and harvesting foods that were ready. We used compost from the compost heap which we have been filling up with animal poo, learning about the cycles of nature and starting to understand the principles of permaculture, homesteading and self-sufficiency.

And of course, no camp would be complete without FUN! From bouncing on the trampoline or playing on the swings or in the play house to more structured activities like painting, crafts and cookie decorating. Everyone had the most wonderful time and can't wait to come back for our next camp!

If you think your child would enjoy one of our holiday camps the get in touch to find out more and reserve your child's space for the next one!
